IMAs are one of the favorite indie awards that cover international music. On 18th October, 2016 the Names of almost 400 candidates for 80 different groups were announced in New York. Recently Pakistani music producer / curator Sharif Awan gets two nominations (for his project Indus Raag) in the Independent Music Awards held recently in USA. Sharif Awan is a writer, culture revivalist and a senior civil servant. He is internationally acclaimed as a curator/ producer of classical, folk and world music. He has worked with great musicians from all over the world, to promote the cause of culture in Pakistan. He is also the founder of Tehzeeb festival. He shared his thoughts on social media, Awan noted in a post, “I am very happy and I owe this award to all my musicians. I immensely share this moment with my family and friends and look forward to better future of classical art and music in Pakistan.” The nominations are decided by international music industry ‘gurus’ as judges on merit basis and in a very transparent manner. The award-winners will be announced on 12th November in Lincoln’s Centre – New York. The Indus Raag project has also been accepted as an entry in the 59th Grammy Awards to be decided in February next year. This is the matter of great pride for the people of Pakistan. We need such kind of individuals who bring a good name to the country. Such people are an asset for positive repute of a nation, they highlight the soft image of Pakistan at International Scenario.
