There used to be a time when we were looking forward to the award show nights and getting to see all the performances, and whatnot. Have you ever thought, what’s the point of award shows? Films and television have the ability to influence people all over the world. Awards shows exist to recognize those who have worked tirelessly to create something that has a positive impact on people's lives.

Trophies from the said award shows have been used as marketing tools in future projects, it's also a moniker for the people who win them. It will be a part of their names for the rest of their lives, proving to everyone that they are experts in their craft.

Sadly, Pakistani award shows are losing their luster and credibility in the eyes of the audience. Point is - are these award shows really recognizing and rewarding excellence and meritocracy or exploiting opportunistic vested interest?

Recently, Pakistan’s one of the biggest style awards shows was held in Lahore, which was full of controversies and significantly short on celebrity attendance. The same elite of actors and actresses. Same musical performances. In a nutshell, the once-famous event of the Pakistan award shows seems to be cheesy and poorly crafted.

With no difference, no unique aspect, and no integrity for the art at all, this award show can’t expect to have any worth or respect in eyes of a vigilant audience.  Here the role of award shows sponsors and media partners is very crucial, as the audience put their trust in them, for honest and transparent information. But there are very few media platforms, that are courageous enough to give an authentic opinion and constructive feedback on poorly conduct fashion shows.

Clinging to the same old ideas of hosting, dance performance, cliché jokes, and rewarding the same faces is no longer an option now. Pakistani award shows desperately needed to come out of their shell and must inject meritocracy and innovation to make them a hit again.
