Tell us something about yourself?
I am fashion designer and vocalist. I belong to Faisalabad but came to Lahore for the bachelor’s degree in fashion design from Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design. I always loved the idea of using my skills to innovate something different with testing methodologies and philosophies so I started working with Leathertex Group which is export industry as a workwear and fashion designer, where I got the opportunity to explore and learn with Hi-tech fabrics and design versatile ranges of workwear including Hi-vis, FR/Anti-static, Army, denim, camouflage etc. Besides this, I have been taking vocal classes to improve my vocals from National Music Academy, where I perform and do gigs.
Is working as a designer for workwear is different from designing other stuff?
Yes, it is entirely different because workwear requires more functionality and practicality whereas if you talk about fashion, it can be more experimental and it does not have to be functional and ISO certified. But I think we can introduce such Hi-tech functional fabrics like dust, water, oil, fire, wind resistant, quick dry, anti UV rays and so on even in fashion here to innovate and to improve human lives which is already happening around the world.
Do you believe design schools bring creativity in an individual or creativity is something natural only?
Yes, definitely design schools polish your inner creativity and skills not just as designer but also as an individual and push your limits to work harder to explore different fields of work of art and your creative imagination by giving new challenge everyday which helps you become the best version of yourself as a designer.
How do you manage singing and working as a designer?
I think it is all up to us to manage and make time for the things we love the most, I love singing, playing musical instruments and even making music. It makes me happy, inspire and motivate to become the best version of myself and to live my life to the fullest everyday. It even helps me in my down days to push myself to work harder which makes me feel to empower other people through singing.
What are you likes and dislikes?
I like spending time alone with myself and making some art or playing some music while imagining the possibilities or watching some sci-fi movie with nachos which is my favorite time as I love sci-fi, horror, mystery, action and thrill. I always love learning and exploring new things, it makes me so excited because I think life is bigger than all of us. The thing I don’t like is fog in the winters which kind of makes me feel depress.
What is your favorite tourist destination and why?
I love Paris not just because it’s the world fashion capital but because there is so much to explore and learn about culture, arts, music, food and you get to meet so many versatile people and hear their story which inspired me to travel more.
Tell me about a project you’re proud of.
My thesis work which I showcased last year in Sri Lanka and got award for the best collection by the name of Transhumanism which is an intellectual moment, aims to the transition of human conditions and ability through technology. So I designed this collection inspired by a retro futuristic film A Space odyssey: 2001 to demonstrate the concept of post human, I designed many smart textiles samples with collaborating some engineers including my dad and developed an app which connects to the garment. It tells you the humidity and temperature of the environment with which you can close and open the vents for the ventilation in the garment through app when you feel hot or cold.
