ENTIN GARTINI - FASHION DESIGNER
- When it comes to designing, what sparks your creativity?
Nature feeds my creative soul. My previous collection was inspired by waves and this time it is Indonesian leaves.
- Which fashion designer’s legacy do you admire most?
I admire Dior, Balmain, Oscar De La Renta and Iris Van Herpen.
- A trend, that wished to be reintroduced?
- A fashion trend you didn’t like?
I am not very fond of fur and sweatbands.
- What is your upcoming project as a designer lined up?
Maybe Indonesian Tenun: It is an artful Indonesian technique of making a piece of fabric by weaving different colors of threads.
- Any tips for newcomer designers?
Stick to your first plan, ignore bad comments who drag you down, and free your mind while you design. Just follow your heart and keep creating.
- What's your favorite part about being a fashion designer?
My favorite part was drawing my imagination and helping small businesses from my country, Indonesia. I want to revive the Indonesian economy after the pandemic. The fabric I used was all made by women who get laid off from their job and wives who want to help their husbands to bring food to the table.
For example, the bag from my collection was from women prisoners in Indonesia. I want to give them some special moments to cherish. To give them second chance and make them skillful. This way they can save money for the future after their release
- What was your biggest challenge as a designer?
My journey as a designer was not smooth. Firstly, I haven’t attended any fashion school, I am a self-taught designer and did some short courses. I also have to support my family financially and make some money from my collection.
Besides money, I had time constraints to focus on my dream job. Moreover, there was a language barrier and I had to learn French, which wasn’t easy for me. Also, being a modest fashion designer, I often get rejected by my model using a scarf or hijab. But in the end, I guess my dream was bigger than my obstacle, so I feel enjoy to do it with no complaints.
